Using the sun’s energy as a source for heating water is nothing new. Solar panels have been around for more than 30 years, however up until recently they haven’t been an economically viable solution. Advances in solar water –panels,  have made these systems a proven technology and an economic and environmentally friendly hot water solution.

Our solar hot water systems can significantly contribute to your hot water needs (approximately 30-70% depending on usage), thus reducing; the cost to you and the environment.

Thermal Earth’s Solar Hot Water Solutions are compatible with most people’s homes. Simply contact us for advice or arrange for a no obligation quotation, we can then advise you on a system to meet your exact needs.

We supply, fit and maintain your solar system. We know our products, you can leave all of the work to us.

Solar hot water systems are not only restricted to houses they can also be used to heat out-buildings or even swimming pools.

Payback from installation of our solar hot water system all depends on the type  of fuel replaced and how much hot water is used. What can be guaranteed though is that Thermal Earth’s solar solutions are protected against future hikes in fuel prices. The Sun’s energy is free to us all, so let’s make the most of it.

About our solution

Thermal Earth Solar Panels use an evacuated glass tube to enclose a copper tube housing a glycol water mix. Having a vacuum inside the glass tube ensures that the maximum solar energy is retained by the system. It is this which makes solar evacuated tubes so much more efficient than the alternatives. The heated  liquid mix then transfers its heat to the hot water system. This can be done either directly into a specifically designed twin coil tank, or via a heat  exchanger into an existing system. Twin coil tanks offer improved efficiency which gives financial benefits in the long term.

Facts about Solar

Most projects don’t require planning for installing solar hot water systems, however if you live in a conservation area/listed building, or building that is under construction, you may be subject to planning approval. Planning generally varies from council to council so it is best to check with them first. A simple letter to enquire, with your general requirements and building details are usually sufficient. Don’t worry this is something that we are more than happy to help with!

FAQ about Solar Hot Water Systems

Will the Solar Panel work in the winter and overcast days?

Evacuated tubes are designed to work efficiently  across a range of ambient temperatures. Performance will drop in winter months but will still actively contribute to your hot water and reduce those bills!

What is the payback of the solar system?
Depending on the fuel being replaced, the payback period varies, typically it is about 5-10 years. The most impressive savings are when the system has paid for itself, avoiding the heightened energy and fuel costs in the future.

Can I use the solar water to shower and bathe?
Our solar hot water system will always contribute to your hot water. On most days the temperature output from the system will be suitable to shower or bathe without the need for your alternative heating system to be used.

Does the solar system require any maintenance?
Unlike a conventional hot water system the solar system requires virtually zero maintenance. The units need to be checked by us every 2 years, however if the solar panel is kept free from any obstruction there really shouldn’t be a problem.

How soon after I place an order can I have the solar system up and running?
After your order has been placed we would hope to have your system installed and working within 14 days.*

Planning & Building Regulations

From 6th April 2008 new Government legislation rules that, unless within a conservation area or on a listed building, the installation will not require planning permission and will be classed as a permitted development.
