Case Study - Tycroes, Ammanford

Mr Phillips from Ammanford decided to build a new home for his young family in Tycroes. The new build, was designed to have the highest levels of insulation available. To further improve the efficiency of the household Mr Phillips decided to include an environmentally friendly and energy efficient heating method, in preparation for diminishing fossil fuel supplies.

Mr Phillips decided a ground source heat pump was his preferred solution. After consultation with various companies Mr Phillips was told he required a slinky loop system, however due to the lack of space at his property, this was not a viable solution. Thermal Earth suggested having boreholes, requiring a relatively small amount of land to take advantage of a ground source heat pump. Due to Thermal Earth having their own drilling rig and team, Mr Phillips decided to choose Thermal Earth to carry out the installation. Due to the competiveness of the quotation a Solar Hot Water system was a welcomed addition.

Thermal Earth carried out the complete installation of each of the technologies, including the borehole work. Dealing with a single company from start to finish. The installation went smoothly, Mr Phillips said that the staff at Thermal Earth were very helpful and informative throughout.

Case Study - Pontnewydd, Carmarthenshire
A couple were renovating an old house in Pontnewydd, Carmarthenshire and decided that they wanted an eco-friendly home to lower their carbon-footprint and reduce their fuel bills. The clients have a plentiful supply of seasoned logs, so a wood fuelled system was a simple choice to make. After considering the various options available, they decided that a Wood Gasifying Boiler, Solar Hot Water System and Underfloor Heating would best suit their requirements.

The boiler is located in an outhouse at the rear of the garden, along with the accumulation tank, expansion vessel and wood store. The flue provides adequate pressure for the boiler to work effectively, and exhausts the waste gases from the boiler. The wood gasifying boiler heats the water in the accumulation tank, this water is then pumped through highly insulated pipe under the garden and into another tank located in the house. The tank is also supplemented by the two solar panels on the roof of the house.

The clients have said that during the Summer months, the hot water supplied by the solar panels is enough, and haven’t required the wood gasifying boiler until the colder Autumn months. Both have agreed that underfloor heating is far more comfortable and controllable than their existing radiator setup.
